Earlier this week, the California Legislature passed SB 114, which Governor Newsom signed today.  SB 114 ushers in a new round of COVID Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (“COVID SPSL”), up to a maximum of 80 hours for most employees. This round of COVID SPSL is retroactive to January 1, 2022 and extends through September 30, 2022. While similar to prior rounds of COVID paid sick leave, this new COVID SPSL has some key differences. Employers should pay close attention and not necessarily rely on past practices to comply with this latest COVID-19 paid sick leave update.
