Gray Line

One of our proudest accomplishments as a law firm is the work environment we’ve created. The values we apply to our workday—and the fun we have together—have been consistent since day one.

Red Line

At Boutin Jones, our people are our greatest asset. Our dedicated, hard-working attorneys and professionals work as a team in a collaborative environment. We place a high value on legal excellence and service to our clients. Here, you will find that you can truly “be you” and find the perfect balance of professional growth opportunities, challenging work, good friends, and fun.

Our law firm stands out not just because of our progressive benefits package, engaging work, and smart business decisions, but because of the people who make up this firm. The way we mix hard work with enjoyment isn’t overly complicated. It is a genuine expression of how much we enjoy working together. Yet even while we love taking over the homerun terrace for a River Cats game and going on our annual family hike, it is as rewarding knowing our benefits package is the equal of nearly all regional law firms. Some of the best things about working at Boutin Jones are the creative ways we have fun together—but we don’t make them a substitute for professional fulfillment. We think one without the other sounds just a bit too much like other law firms.

COMMITMENT
TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Boutin Jones is well-known for its uniquely supportive work environment and that extends to our unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion. Because we are invested in each member of our team, cultivating a work environment of belonging and inclusion is important to us. That commitment extends not only internally to our team, but also externally to the community we service.

Some of the programs in which Boutin Jones participates include:

Cristo Rey Work-Study
Program Sponsors

We are longtime Work-Study Program Sponsors of Cristo Rey High School, providing jobs each year to students from diverse, limited-resources backgrounds. This renowned work-study program provides professional work experience and college preparatory education to outstanding youth in our community. We are proud to support the program and are honored to have had the opportunity to benefit from having these students as a part of our team. In fact, our involvement with the program has resulted in our ability to hire an outstanding and talented long-term team member – in 2017, Aaron Haro officially became a very valued member of our IT team and we are lucky to have him!

Aaron Haro

Sacramento County Bar Association Diversity Summer Fellowship Program

Each year, our summer associate law school program includes a Fellow from the Sacramento County Bar Association’s Diversity Fellowship Program. Through the Program, Boutin Jones is paired with qualified and diverse candidates for a summer clerkship between their first and second years of law school. As a participant, we enjoy taking all of the Fellows in the Program each year to the Sacramento County Superior Court for an educational and information observation of court in action, and lunch with a member of the judiciary for a behind-the-scenes look at how our court system operates, giving the Fellows a unique opportunity to help shape their future endeavors.

McGeorge School of Law Sacramento Legal Employers Diversity Collective

We are a supporting member of McGeorge School of Law’s Sacramento Legal Employers Diversity Collective. The Collective is comprised of 30 of the region’s largest legal employers including law firms, state agencies, public defender offices, and attorney general offices. Members of our team participate in the Collective to assist the greater Sacramento region and its legal community in expanding pipeline programs that connect middle school and high school students with attorneys to discuss the legal profession, developing best practices on recruiting and retaining diverse attorneys, operating a mentorship program, and collecting data from employers to assist diverse law students with obtaining the legal skills necessary to succeed in the profession.

SUMMER ASSOCIATE PROGRAM

Each year, Boutin Jones selects one or more summer associates to join the firm between their second and third years of law school for a summer legal clerkship. Our summer associates are paired with a mentor for the summer and are provided with substantive legal work for our firm’s clients. The best way to learn is by doing, and here you will do so with the benefit of one-on-one interactions, direction, and collaboration with all of our attorneys, from first-year associates to shareholders. At Boutin Jones we are passionate about what we do and encourage you to actively engage with and seek out assignments from attorneys working in areas that interest you. We make every effort to involve you in each step of the legal process, from client intake to conclusion of the representation. We will involve you in transactional projects, research, depositions, mediation, and drafting motions and other legal documents for our clients. We want to ensure that when you leave here at the end of the summer, you will know what it is like to practice law with us and that you have taken the first step in what is sure to be a long and successful legal career.

Boutin Jone summer outing

As a summer associate at Boutin Jones, you will also have the opportunity to participate in various firm summer events including the annual River Cats outing, golfing with our Duffers Cup League, and playing softball in the Sacramento County Bar’s lawyers’ league.
