Leo Cristobal helps Boutin Jones clients formulate strong business, real estate, and personal tax strategies. His background combines experience in the private and public sectors of tax law, having worked as an associate with Andersen’s San Francisco office and as tax counsel for the California Franchise Tax Board. At Andersen, he provided compliance and planning advice for high net-worth individuals and family partnerships. At the FTB, Leo represented the agency in over 100 tax controversies, taking cases through full briefing and oral hearings before judges at the Office of Tax Appeals. He received both a J.D. and a Master of Laws in Taxation after earning a full-tuition scholarship, interned for the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office and served as an extern for the Honorable Judge Teri L. Jackson, Superior Court of California. Leo also serves as an officer on the Executive Board for the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California.

Analyzed complex partnership structures, formulated work papers, and collaborated with firm partners to provide estimated tax projections, planning opportunities and other technical advice.
Ensured tax compliance by researching federal, state, local and foreign tax issues and preparing tax returns for high net-worth individuals, entities and corporate clients.
Drafted response letters to state tax authorities and internal memoranda related to tax reform.
